A downloadable game

Made for Ludum Dare 42 between myself and my friend Dan, Into the Darkness is a game about being trapped in a cave.

Despite being in a large, open cave, your space is limited by the available light, which is maintained by a dwindling supply of fuel.

Thankfully you're a dab hand at making improvised machinery, and the cave is rich in minerals and ancient technology, so you've taken it upon yourself to build a mech, which you will use to escape from the cave. Simple, right?

  • Use WASD or the arrow keys to move.
  • E to gather resources (it's a bit broken right now)
  • I to open inventory
    • Click an inventory item to drop / place it
  • C to open crafting menu
    • Click a crafting option to make a thing, if you have the materials
  • Click on a torch to light it, at the cost of some fuel.
  • Click on a resource on the floor to pick it up.

As you make more parts of the Mech, the Darkness in the cave will intensify, causing torches to burn fuel faster.

There are several holes in the roof of the cave, which let in light during the day. Also, additional fuel will be provided by being dropped from the holes.

If you leave things on the floor for too long, the Darkness might take it. Who knows what they use it for...

Install instructions

Download the .ZIP, extract it and run the .EXE

As the game relies on ambient light to create the Darkness, playing on low quality is not recommended, as ambient light is disabled, and it is impossible to determine if you are in the light or not.
